War Thunder rewards preparation before the first shot. Vehicle strengths, armor layout, ammunition, range estimation, map routes, and the location of friendly units determine whether an engagement is favorable. The useful question is not only whether you can hit a target, but whether the position gives you an escape, a second shot, and information about the next threat.
Build a small lineup around vehicles you understand instead of rushing through every branch. Learn two opening routes per map, common weak points, and the ammunition choice for the targets you meet most. Review the moment you became visible: the final shot often matters less than the route, silhouette, or repeated peek that made it possible.
Learn from current competition
Tournaments can separate air, ground, naval, simulator, and mixed formats while applying specific vehicle and lineup rules. Check the event settings before comparing results. Watch how teams establish sightlines, protect capture zones, trade damaged vehicles, and avoid exposing the same angle twice after their position is known.
